Viewers' jaws everywhere dropped last night (December 25) when the Branning matriarch stepped back on the Square to see her daughters Lauren and Abi – and reveal Max's evil actions.
But despite us all wanting Tanya Branning (now Cross) to stay in Walford for good, her real-life alter ego has explained that it's "only a visit".
Merry Christmas to all! Judging by my timeline it was worth all the Saturdays in the rain. Thanks for all the love guys. It’s only a visit but stay with us..... are my girls alright? #EastEnders

Actress Jo Joyner, who's gone on to star in shows such as Marley's Ghosts and Ackley Bridge since leaving EastEnders in 2013 (with a quick comeback in 2015 for the show's 30th anniversary), took to Twitter to show her appreciation – after fans in their droves heaped praise on the tense episode.© BBC
Tanya's return was the explosive climax of Max's long-running revenge plan. After committing some heinous acts over the past year, Max has truly unravelled – and his ex-wife was the person to finally watch him fall apart.
But everything changed forever in the closing moments of last night's big Christmas Day episode – when Tan and Max's daughters Lauren and Abi fell from the roof of the Queen Vic, almost eight years on from Max's son Bradley suffering the same fate.
But are Lauren and Abi dead? And how long will Tanya stick around in Walford as her family lies in tatters?
EastEnders next airs Boxing Day tonight (December 26) at 7:30pm.
