EastEnders Star Jake Wood Predicts Tanya Branning Won't Return Full Time

EastEnders star Jake Wood doesn't think Tanya Branning will be making a full-time return to the show anytime soon.

Jo Joyner reprised her role as the popular character in the show's Christmas Day and Boxing Day episodes, before making another surprise reappearance in last week's sad episode.

However, fans shouldn't expect to see Tanya back in Walford again in the near future, as Jake – who plays her ex-husband Max – reckons the actress is too busy to commit at the moment.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the National Television Awards last night (January 23), Jake said: "I don't think she will [return], because she's so busy doing other stuff and she's got a family.

"She lives up north and she's miles away from where we are. I don't think it will happen anytime soon, but at some point in the future, you never know.

"We loved having Jo back. Tanya is a great character and it was lovely to have Jo back even if it was only for a few days."

But while a full-time comeback for Tanya isn't looking likely, Jake is excited about the return of her troubled sister Rainie – who also made a brief reappearance last week.

He said: "I'm very excited. I love Tanya Franks as an actress. Max and Rainie hate each other basically, so that'll be fun to play.

"Who knows what they'll get up to, but I'm sure their paths will cross. Rainie is always trouble so from the viewers' point of view, it'll be great to see. It's lovely to have her back.

"The stuff in the last couple of weeks with Abi dying has been great. There seems to be a buzz about the show again, we've got John Yorke back, we've got Jessie Wallace coming back, and some good, well-loved characters coming back. I think the show is on a high and it's amazing."

And with Tamzin Outhwaite calling for Mel Owen to get together with Max, could romance be on the horizon for the pair?

"Who knows?" Jake said. "Mel has got a track record, Max has got a track record.

"I don't know what they've got planned for the next year, but whatever happens, they've got great characters there and a lot of options with what they can dxo with them. All of the options are there and they're going to be brilliant."

EastEnders continues tonight at 8pm on BBC One.
